Aumenta a 42 número de muertos por explosión en hotel en Cuba, en su mayoría trabajadores del hotel; 3 siguen desaparecidos

Se suponía que el elegante Hotel Saratoga reabriría en La Habana el martes después de una pausa de dos años por la pandemia. En cambio, es un día de luto por las 42 personas que se sabe que murieron en una explosión que destrozó el edificio. La búsqueda de aún más víctimas continúa.

Un portavoz de la compañía hotelera dice que los expertos estiman que el 80 por ciento del hotel resultó dañado por la explosión del viernes, que arrojó toneladas de trozos de concreto a las calles a solo una cuadra del Capitolio del país y dañó gravemente las estructuras vecinas.

Cincuenta y una personas trabajaban para poner a punto el hotel para su reinauguración y 23 de ellas se encuentran entre los muertos. Tres trabajadores siguen desaparecidos.

El Ministerio de Salud dijo que el número total de muertos aumentó a 42, incluido al menos un turista español. Diecisiete personas permanecían hospitalizadas.

El jefe del Partido Comunista de La Habana, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, dijo que 38 viviendas resultaron afectadas por la explosión y 95 personas debieron ser reubicadas.
