Maykel Osorbo’s daughter to the Summit: “My father is in prison just for making a song. Can you help me free him?”

Jade de la Caridad, daughter of Cuban activist and rapper Maykel “Osorbo” Castillo, imprisoned since May 2021, addressed the members of the Summit of the Americas in a short but emotional video asking for help so that her father is released.

“Gentlemen of the Summit, I am writing to you, although I do not know you, from Cuba. I want to talk to you about my dad, who is in prison for just singing a song, ”she began by saying the little girl.

“He hasn’t done anything, please can you help me free him? I love him very much and I miss him, please, ”added the little girl, who put her hands to her heart during her moving message, shared on Facebook by Yotuel; invited to the “Civil Society Forum and the Dialogue between Civil Society, Social Actors and High-Level Government Representatives”.

“Maykel Osorbo’s daughter asks the Summit for her father’s freedom. Today I came to the Summit with a mission, as a musician and as a father that I am. Very few people know my sad story of how my father was taken from me when I was 4 years old and how I came to recover him when I was 21 years old, a quadriplegic,” Yotuel wrote on the aforementioned social network, where he shared part of his personal story with his followers and why why the separation of Maykel and his daughter touches him especially.

“I could never recover my soul as an abandoned child, with that I live and I will live. I am not a politician and my work team, which I admire and want, tell me every day to focus on music, it is the best moment of my career. But I can’t sleep, my people, I can’t as long as I continue to see more children who are victims of a dictatorship that puts its ideals before the well-being of its people,” added the rapper.

“As long as there are children like her, I will continue, I feel sorry for my team and for all those who follow me who are not Cuban, but surely they are parents or children,” concluded Yotuel, who this week met with the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Hemispherics, Brian Nichols, in the framework of the IX Summit of the Americas, which is being held in Los Angeles, California.

It is not the first time that Jade de la Caridad has moved Cubans with a message about her father.

In November of last year, as a result of the two Grammy awards obtained by the song “Patria y Vida”, the little girl published a brief message in which she congratulated her father, a participant in the project, and was very happy with the awards. .

“I am happy that he has won the Grammys for Latin music. Although he is not next to me, I love him too. And I feel that he is next to me. Even if he is not with me, he will still love me”, he said then.

The trial against Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Maykel Osorbo was concluded for sentencing on May 31 after sitting for two days in the Municipal Court of Marianao, in Havana, under a strong military operation. In the case of Maykel, the Prosecutor’s Office asks him for 10 years in prison for the alleged crimes of attack, public disorder and escape of prisoners or detainees.
