The increase in emigration wreaks havoc on the Cuban educational system

The increase in emigration in Cuba wreaks havoc on the educational system of Ciego de Ávila, where official statistics recorded 105 students in May who dropped out of school for that reason.

The municipalities of Ciego de Ávila and Morón were the ones that registered the highest figures in this regard, even in educational centers where it is not common for students to drop out, according to the official newspaper Invasor.

Madeleys Sánchez Llanes, deputy director general at the Provincial Directorate of Education, acknowledged that this is a trend that worries local authorities, because in the first month of the 2021-2022 school year almost half of the students left the country who did so in the Previous period.

Dropping out of school is an issue that worries the Provincial Directorate of Education, especially when there is also an increase in the number of minors who are pregnant or who get married, while primary and pre-university education are the ones that report the highest figures. tall.

In total, this province in eastern Cuba registered 149 casualties in May for different reasons, within which the local authorities describe as “harmless” those related to emigration and death.

Until now, the Cuban dictatorship has not published statistical data on the migratory rates registered in 2022, the most recent information corresponds to last year, also coinciding with the closure of borders and the worst moment of the coronavirus pandemic on the island.

In the period 2017-2021, 4,343 people left Ciego de Ávila for other countries, which represents about 1% of the population of the entire province, which last year had an average of 433,026 inhabitants, according to the Yearbook Demographic from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI).

These external migratory balances coincide with the crisis registered at the borders of the United States, where 140,602 Cubans have arrived in eight months, and in May alone official statistics revealed that 25,348 arrived from the south to request refuge in the country.

Faced with the increase in people leaving Cuba, due to the economic, political and social crisis that the country is experiencing, one of the procedures that is most in demand on the island is the transfer of home ownership titles, although the The official press did not reveal figures that would allow knowing the magnitude of the events.
