Cubans accuse Spanish and French companies of financing the Cuban dictatorship

The organizations Cubans for Democracy (C4D) and Democrazia e Libertà (ODV) denounced in the Italian Senate the complicity of Spanish and French governments and companies with the Castro dictatorship; financing their survival, despite the very poor record of respect for human rights, evidenced in the repression, trials and convictions against 11J protesters.

Cuban lawyer Julio Rodríguez asked the Italian Senate to promote the application of the Magnitsky Law to those responsible for human rights violations in Cuba; especially members of the military, judicial and political leadership of the regime.

The companies Meliá Hotels International SA and Grupo Iberostar (Spain) and Bouygues Bâtiment International (France) “finance the survival” of Castroism, assured the Cuban lawyer.

Both entities condemned the judicial sentences against Maykel Osorbo and Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and the “torture inflicted” on prisoners, including minors; verified by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, according to a C4D statement, released this Friday in Rome and Madrid.

Rodríguez also asked the Italian Senate to urge the Italian Government to withdraw the ratification of the EU-Cuba Dialogue Agreement or, at least, to propose, to the European Commission, to immediately suspend it on the basis of article 85; to open a commission of inquiry into the fact that the EU and/or Italy have not suspended or canceled the agreement with the Cuban government for the violation of its human rights clause and the appointment of a special representative for Cuba.

Cuban nurse Sara Sánchez, who spoke on behalf of Democrazia e Libertà, denounced the practices of modern slavery suffered by the Cuban medical brigades sent to Italy during the Covid-19 pandemic and criticized the Italian political parties and institutions that allowed the forced labor of Cuban doctors, despite existing complaints before international organizations and the UN for violations of labor and human rights to which doctors and their families are subjected.

Cubans for Democracy is a Spanish non-profit organization made up of lawyers and journalists who work to denounce and prosecute human rights abuses in Cuba and the European funding that the Cuban regime has access to through different channels.

Democracy and Liberty was an Italian electoral list headed by the former secretary of the Christian Democracy, Ciriaco De Mita, in the 1996 parliamentary elections.
