Iván Márquez is alive in a hospital in Caracas and protected by the Maduro regime

Defense Minister Diego Molano assured that intelligence reports revealed that alias Iván Márquez is not dead, as initially announced, but that he is in a hospital in the city of Caracas, where he is also being protected by the Armed Forces of the Venezuelan regime.

In recent days, there had been speculation about the death of the leader of the Second Marquetalia, as different versions questioned the information that he was dead. President Iván Duque had announced that the government was considering two possibilities: the first was that Reyes had died, and the second, that he was seriously injured.

However, Molano assured that new intelligence reports point more towards the second scenario:

“The information we have is that indicated after the presentation of the video, which is a valid report. The intelligence data is that, in these disputes, one of these vendettas was presented, where his integrity was affected and he is being protected by the regime of Nicolás Maduro in a hospital in Caracas, “said Molano.

The video to which he refers is the one published by the magazine Cambio, in which members of the guerrilla assured that Márquez had been wounded, but was in stable condition.

“We address the Colombian people and the international community to report that on June 30, 2022, Commander Iván Márquez was the victim of a criminal attack directed from the Army barracks and Police commandos. Fortunately, he was unharmed, he only suffered minor injuries. He is enjoying good health. And from his combat trench, the struggle of ideas for a new Colombia will continue, ”said one of the dissidents.

After studying the video sent by the armed group, the intelligence units determined that the person in charge of reading the statement was Alberto Cruz Lobo, alias Enrique Marulanda, son of the founder of the FARC, Manuel Marulanda Vélez. The fact that it was not Márquez who read the statement, or his closest man, Zarco Aldinever, led to the conclusion that he would not be in a combat zone or in a camp, but rather in a health center, being treated and under the protection of the Venezuelan armed forces.

In addition, the authorities were able to learn about the attack suffered by Márquez thanks to several interceptions of his close circle, in which the intelligence units were able to hear commotion and people crying, which revealed that something was not going well in the Second Marquetalia.

Later it was established that even a helicopter, possibly with Venezuelan registration, arrived at the scene to rescue the guerrilla leader. According to Minister Molano, Venezuelan army troops traveled to the scene to confirm or disprove his death.

The first versions about the death of Iván Márquez

The first version of the events was known on July 2, when it was reported that the guerrilla leader had died in Venezuelan territory during a confrontation between criminal groups for control of drug trafficking routes near the border with Colombia.

Hours later, that version was questioned by the Venezuelan authorities, who claimed that the events had occurred in a town called El Callao, in the state of Bolívar, very close to the border with Guyana, and not on the border with Colombia. as initially said.
